Dear 30 Year Old Me

I wonder about you a lot.

Are you happy? Have you found the love of your life? Have you forgotten about the man you said you never would, seven years ago? You know, the big blue Chevy driving hunk, who couldn’t take his eyes off you. The one that let you slip away…withoutย  you having much of a say.

What does your hair look like, are you still doing your make-up?

The year is 2017, just seven years short of turning 30. Currently, life isn’t half bad. You’ve lost a couple of friendships recently but it’s actually their loss. They didn’t accept you for who you are. I really really really hope you aren’t friends with them again. Forgive them? Sure. But don’t trust them. Your sanity isn’t safe with them.

Did you get your master’s degree? The one you were thinking about when you were near completion toward your bachelor’s.

Are you still thinking about living down South? Louisiana? Tennessee? The Carolinas?

Where ever you are, whatever you’re doing, I hope you’re living well.

I wonder about you, a lot. What you’re going to look like, what career path you’ve officially chosen. Whether you’ll have little kids running around. A house. A dog. A garden full of your favorite flowers.

What’s new?

Don’t try to rush writing me back– live your life the way you are right now,ย  I’ll hear back from you sooner than you think. I’m so eager to know what’s changed.

Love, your younger self.

  1. I have found my 30’s to be WAY better than my 20’s! I think you settle into yourself a bit more. But enjoy your 20’s! There is a certain carefree spirit in your 20’s that doesn’t always stick around, but not in a bad way ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Lindsey! I look up to y’all. Lol. I always wonder how it is being 30-40. I mean, I imagine it’s the best time of your life. It’s so true though, us 23 year olds do have carefree spirits. Thanks for your opinion I really do appreciate it and I look forward to the next 10 years!!

  2. Hi Jessica, A beautiful written post. I too am taken back to my 20’s and 30’s, it gets better year on year, I say. Sometimes in hind sight i feel everyones life is similar in terms of certain things and wildly different in other things. Friends come and go, some stay forever and some don’t. Year on year it will matter less. You have a beautiful blog here. Thank you for visiting mine so i could visit yours. Regards bella

    1. I am very pleased that you were touched by what I’ve written. If it took you back, I’ve achieved my purpose with this blog. I am always so curious about the future, and if the path I’m on will get me to where I want to be. Thanks for your advise. It’s true, friends come and go…. thank you so much for your kind words. They mean so much!

    1. Hi-
      Thanks for reading.
It’s good to hear that 30’s is better. I hear this often.
Being 23 leaves me wondering a lot about being 30. I wonder if I’ll think about 40 when I’m 30. Lol. Wonder wonder wonder.

  3. Reading this just made me think back to when I was your age. I am 32 now and when I look back at myself, how different things have changed for me. I wish I could tell my younger stuff the things I worried about then seem so insignificant now. How your circle of friends will change, how having 2 kids is the best thing that will happen to you. So much changes in a blink of an eye. This was a great read for us 30+ year olds to reflect on our lives, thank you for sharing and good luck on your journey to 30!

    1. I am so happy knowing you reminisced to when you were younger. That was exactly my goal when writing this. I worry about so many things, being 23. I think about the future a lot, and I wonder a lot if things will change. I want to have kids, but at this rate I’m not too sure it will happen. I’ve been single for a while. I don’t know. I just wonder a lot. Lol. Thank you so much for reading!

      1. I didn’t have my first child until I was 27. Enjoy your youth. Experience everything that you can, because when kids do come they will change your life like you wouldn’t believe. The future will be here before you know it.
